Nov 22, 2012 · Destination Host Unreachable From what I've been reading, I guess the failure to ping the modem was caused by the DHCP timeout, and that that was caused by the "eth1 down", and eth0 being rename eth1 may have somthing to do with it, but what it's all about is beyond me. You have probably set the first eth0 interface to "NAT" or "bridged", and attached it to your host's ethernet interface. If you are online via wifi but your bridge/NAT is configured to use the ethernet card, you won't have network connectivity; the reverse is also true. Change the network interface of the VM to use the correct host interface. This started this morning, I woke up and my site was there, checked my mail, and then my site was gone. When I login locally and try and ping google.ca I get "Connect : Network is unreachable" ifconfig eth0 shows the ip address has changed to a .101 from a .103 so I change it back, however the site cannot be seen and I cannot connect to it using putty. Networking doesn't want to work. It's a Realtek RTL8111/8168B network card which is picked up as eth0 but I cannot ping the rest of the network and cannot ping this box from the LAN either. When I set it as DHCP I do NOT get an IP address. When I set it static I get "destination host unreachable". However, when I try to ping my router it says Destination Host Unreachable, that means my packages are not being sent over wired, right? My interfaces config looks like this: auto enp3s0 iface enp3s0 inet static address 192.168.1.42 netmask 255.255.255.0 network 192.168.1.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255 gateway 192.168.1.254 host unreachable: the originator passes a frame from router, to router, etc, until reaching the destination gateway that believes it has a path to the host. it arps for the data link layer address, and if it does not receive one, a host unreachable is passed back. the important thing here is that a host unreachable implies that the intervening
