The first thing that happens when using any of the tools is that the entered hostname (e.g. google.com) is resolved to the corresponding IP address. The IP address resolution is performed using the configured DNS server. When it fails, you get the "failed to resolve IP address" message.

Oct 29, 2012 · There seems to be some problem with my phone's ability to connect to wifi successfully. Well, it does connect, I can ping LAN devices from my phone and I can even open up google if i input IP address directly. However it seems to be unable to resolve dns addresses. I tried pinging dns servers and they responded fine.
